KB19222 - Error when connecting to a Windows 7 or Windows 2008 Server with Windows Terminal Service (WTS) client

Synopsis

This article describes the issue that occurs when connecting to a remote Windows 7 or Windows 2008 server with Windows Terminal Service (WTS) client.

Problem or Goal

The following error message is generated, when users access the Terminal Service Session:

Error: An internal state error has occurred. The remote session will be disconnected. Your local computer might be low on memory. Close some programs, and then try connecting to the remote computer again.

 

Cause
Based on the log analysis, the following information is obtained from the User Access log:
testuser(Users)[Users] - Logout from 10.9.222.167 (session:00000000)
testuser(Users)[Users] - Closed connection to 10.9.222.136 port 3389 after 0 seconds, with 19 bytes read (in 1 chunks) and 19 bytes written (in 1 chunks)
testuser(Users)[Users] - Connected to 10.9.222.136 port 3389
testuser(Users)[Users] - Login succeeded for testuser/Users (session:00000000) from 10.9.222.167.
testuser(Users)[] - Primary authentication successful for testuser/System Local from 10.9.222.167
From the policy trace:
testuser(Users)[Users] - Start Policy [HOSTPORT/WINTERMSERV] evaluation for resource 10.9.222.136:3389
testuser(Users)[Users] - Applying Policy [test]...
testuser(Users)[Users] - Action [Allow access] is returned

Where 10.9.222.136 is the Terminal server and 10.9.222.14 is the PCS internal interface.
Solution
This issue is resolved in 8.1R7 and 8.2R1.

To workaround this issue, perform the following procedure:

Right click My computer > Properties > Remote and select the Allow connections only from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure) option.
