KB19531 - Validation errors with SSL device certificates issued from VeriSign / Symantec

Synopsis
This article provides steps to troubleshoot and resolve certificate errors that can occur when connecting to an PCS secured with a VeriSign / Symantec SSL issued device certificate.
Problem or Goal
When browsing to a sign-in URL hosted on the PCS, the connection fails and/or users are presented with invalid certificate error messages. 

This can occur when:

  • One or more Intermediate certificate authority (CA) certificates are missing or not installed properly
  • Root certificate is missing or not installed properly.
Cause
Solution
To verify installation of the VeriSign / Symantec issued certificates, please use the ssl installation checker at https://cryptoreport.websecurity.symantec.com/checker/.  If the website states "Intermediate certificate missing", please refer to the steps below.
 
  1. Save the missing Intermediate CA file from the Symantec Installation Checker website.
  2. Go to Configuration > Certificates Device Certificates

  3. At the top of the screen, click Intermediate CAs link.

     

  4. From the Intermediate CA page, click Import CA Certificate.
  1. Click Browse and navigate to the Intermediate certificate file saved from the Symantec website.
  2. Click Import Certificate.

Once completed, try making a secure connection again.
