Synopsis
This article describes an issue where the Host Checker compliance check fails to detect Windows Defender as a anti-virus product in Windows 7, but passes with Windows 8 and above.
Problem or Goal
When Host Checker does the compliance check on machines running Windows 7 or below it does not identify Windows Defender as an Antivirus.
Cause
This issue occurs due to Windows Defender in Windows 7 and below is reported as an anti-spyware product only by Microsoft.
Solution
Due to the limitation by Microsoft, Windows Defender running on Windows 7 cannot be detected as a anti-virus product.  If detection of Windows Defender is a required, use one of the following suggestions below:
  1. Create a file check for the Windows Defender executable (C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe)
  2. Create a process check for the Windows Defender process (MSASCui.exe)
