Synopsis
This article provides step-by-step instructions how to enable IP transparency when the backend server does not support "X-Forwarded-For" HTTP header to determine the end user's IP address.
Problem or Goal
Cause
Solution
To enable IP transparency, perform the following steps:
  1. Check that STM VA (Virtual Appliance) is being used
  2. Check that Pool where IP transparency is to be enabled, have all of the nodes in the same subnet as vTM
  3. Enable IP forwarding under System > Networking > NAT / IP Forwarding
  4. Check that routers/firewalls around STM will accept traffic to/from back-end servers going through STM
  5. Reconfigure back-end server to point their "default gateway" to STM
  6. Enable IP transparency under Services > Pool > {your-pool} > Connection Management
