KB16838 - Changing the global gzip setting causes Network Connect users to re-connect

Synopsis
When the gzip setting is changed various services are restarted to apply the modification.  Existing Network Connect sessions are disconnected and then re-connect without user intervention.
Problem or Goal


The option to enable or disable gzip compression is found at  Maintenance > System > Options



 

If the gzip setting is enabled or disabled it is recorded in the Admin Access Log:



 

This causes services to restart which are logged in the Event log:




 

At this point Network Connect users will be disconnected and the Network Connect client will re-connect.

Cause
Solution
It is recommended to schedule changes to the configuration that cause service restarts during an official maintenance window or during a quiet period when few users will be disrupted.
