Synopsis
This article provides information on how to configure ActiveSync on PCS for mobile clients. The Authorization Only Access ActiveSync option in PCS can be used to synchronize email/data between mobile devices and an Exchange server, without installing any additional client application, such as WSAM or the Junos Pulse client, on a mobile device.
Problem or Goal
  • How to configure the Authorization Only Access ActiveSync option on the PCS

  • The Clientless ActiveSync option has to be configured to sync e-mail data between an iPhone, Android, or Windows Mobile device and an Exchange server.
Cause
Solution

PCS configuration for ActiveSync:

  1. In the PCS admin console, go to Authentication > Signing In > Sign-in Policies.

  • Click New URL and select the Authorization Only Access radio button:

  • In the Virtual Hostname field, type a unique name that maps to the PCS’s IP address. The hostname is used to access the exchange server that is provided in the Backend URL field. Do not include the protocol (for example, HTTP:) in this field.

  • For Backend URL, type the URL for the web server.  It should include the protocol, hostname, and port of the server. For example, http://www.domain.com:8080/*.

  • Select [No Authorization] from the Authorization Server drop-down menu.

  • Select a user role from the Role Option drop-down menu.

  • Select the Allow ActiveSync Traffic only option to perform a basic validation of the HTTP header to ensure that the request is consistent with the ActiveSync protocol.

Note: If 'Allow ActiveSync Traffic only' is selected, then only the ActiveSync protocol requests will be processed.

  • Click Save changes.
