Windows Vista/7 report "No Internet access" when Network Connect or Pulse Secure client are connected, even if user has access to the internet. This is a known limitation in Microsoft Windows Vista/7.
Problem or Goal
If the Network icon in the taskbar is moused over, "Unidentified network - No Internet access" can be observed.
Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center displays "No Internet access" for the Network Connect or Pulse Secure client.
Cause
According to Microsoft, the VPN adapter is not able to access the internet because of a code error in the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI). In this situation, an incorrect connection status is reported. This issue also affects applications that read the network connection status through NCSI. See also KB29220.
Solution
Microsoft had published a Hotfix to resolve the issue, however, they do not support it anymore and the recommendation is to upgrade the OS to Windows 10.
