Synopsis
This article provides details about a behavior change with split tunneling DNS search order feature with Windows 10.
Problem or Goal
After upgrading to Windows 10, Pulse Secure Desktop and Network Connect users will notice split tunneling DNS search order is no longer honored.
Cause
This issue is due to a Microsoft change as Windows 10 no longer supports network protocol bind ordering.  In previous Windows releases, split tunneling DNS search order would adjust the network bindings to achieve this behavior.
Solution
Starting with Windows 10, the new behavior will be the following (regardless if search client dns first or search device dns first is set):
  • Initial DNS request will use device DNS first
  • Additional DNS requests will use client and device DNS at the same time

If device DNS only is configured, there is no change in behavior.
