Synopsis
This article describes an issue where Safari 11 is unable to launch Pulse Secure components (i.e. Pulse Secure Desktop client, Host Checker, etc.) using Pulse Secure Application Launcher (PSAL) due to the Allow prompt for PulseApplicationLauncher.app disappearing too quickly.
Problem or Goal
When attempting to launch any Pulse Secure component with 8.2RX and above using a Safari 11 browser, the following message will appear and disappear after one (1) second:
Do you want to allow this page to open “PulseApplicationLauncher.app”?
Example:

If Allow is not selected, PSAL will not launch the Pulse component and remain on the Searching for Application Launcher loading screen:

Cause
This issue is due to a behavior change in Safari 11. In previous Safari releases, the Allow prompt would remain until the end user selected Allow or Cancel.
Solution
Pulse Secure has made a change to add a five (5) second delay to allow the end user to click on the Allow button.  This behavior change is implemented in 8.3R5.

Workaround:

  1. After attempting to launch any Pulse Secure component, quickly hitting the Enter key will click the Allow option and properly launch PSAL.
  2. Use Firefox or Chrome browser to launch any Pulse Secure component. The following issue applies only to the Safari browser
