Synopsis
This article provides details about the Pulse desktop client message: "User Input timeout. (Error: 1382)"
Problem or Goal
If the Pulse client is launched, either manually or automatically, and the user does not enter their credentials within 120 seconds, Pulse will display the following message briefly

User Input Timed out (Error:1382)

Then display the logon page again. This cycle will repeat until the user authenticates and connects.

The messages below can be seen in the Pulse client-side debuglog.log and indicate that the default timeout length is 120 seconds, or 2 minutes.

00148,09 2017/12/28 17:46:29.563 4 SYSTEM PulseSecureService.exe iftProvider p2016 t1D58 iftProvider.cpp:1331 - 'iftProvider' Using default network timeout
00172,09 2017/12/28 17:46:29.563 3 SYSTEM PulseSecureService.exe iftProvider p2016 t1D58 iftProvider.cpp:1333 - 'iftProvider' Using authentication network timeout of (120000) msec

If there is no input from the user before 120 seconds pass then the following entries will be seen in the client-side debug log:

00288,09 2017/12/28 17:48:32.817 4 css109737 Pulse.exe Pulse p7964 t1F20 UiModelListener.cpp:385 - 'JamUI' status-msg: 1382 <short: User input timeout., long: Pulse timed out waiting for user input.

Pulse will attempt to connect again shortly. Press Retry to start right away.>,

00292,09 2017/12/28 17:48:32.817 4 css109737 Pulse.exe Pulse p7964 t1F20 UiModelListener.cpp:388 - 'JamUI' last-status-msg: 1382 <short: User input timeout., long: Pulse timed out waiting for user input.

Pulse will attempt to connect again shortly. Press Retry to start right away.>,

Note: This behavior is only seen with the Pulse desktop client and does not apply to the Pulse Mobile client or Network Connect.

Cause
The authentication timeout value for the Pulse desktop is hardcoded to 120 seconds and cannot be modified.
Solution
This behavior is working as designed and does not affect the functionality of the Pulse client in any way.
