Synopsis

Pulse Workspace: Camera and Screenshot restriction behaves differently for Android and iOS

For Mobile Device Management using Pulse Workspace, admins are provided an option to restrict the users to restrict the user from using Camera and taking Screenshots on both Android and iOS. These options are available under Android Restrictions or iOS Restriction in the following location.

PulseOne GUI > Workspaces > Policies > Properties

This article explains the difference in behavior of iOS and Android OS while applying the screenshot and camera restrictions.
Problem or Goal
On Pulse Workspace, there are two Android and iOS restrictions properties
  • Allow Screenshot
  • Allow to use Camera
When these restrictions are enforced they behave differently on iOS and Android OS.
Cause
Solution
The behavior observed on both Androids and iOS is expected.

The restriction works as follows:
  • For Android, these two restrictions are effective only inside the managed applications.
  • For iOS, these two restrictions are effective device wide.
Behavior for Androids
For Androids, these two restrictions will only work for Work Profile Applications meaning when the MDM managed Applications are being used, then these restrictions will be effective and user won't be able to take screenshots or use camera as shown in the following Picture (Capture taken from an android Emulator).

Behavior for iOS
For iOS, these restrictions are effective device wide because there is no separate profile created.

Note: On Android, since a separate work profile is created, these restrictions will be effective only inside Work profile/Workspace managed applications.
