Synopsis
This article describes the issue of the 'Registration failed- '(License Key)' is not compatible with this edition of the product' error message being generated, when trying to install the license via GUI.
Problem or Goal
When installing the license key via the SBR administrator GUI (after entering the license string and clicking OK), the Registration failed- '<SBR License Key>' is not compatible with this edition of the product License registration error is generated.

In the SBR administrator GUI, the following errors are noticed:
 
  • Error condition : Evaluation period expired on "XX-XX-XXXX"
 
  • Error condition : No valid primary license registered.


Cause
Solution

To resolve this issue, perform the following procedure:

 
  1. Logon to the SBR server and browse to the install location of SBR. By default, it is /opt/JNPRsbr/radius in UNIX and C:\Program Files\Juniper Networks\Steel-Belted Radius\Service in Windows.
 
  • Create the radius.lic file.
 
  • Open the radius.lic file, type the SBR license string, and save the file.
 
  • Restart the SBR service.
 
  • Now launch the SBR administrator GUI; you should be able to see the license keys successfully installed.


    Note: This error might also occur, if you try to install a license key of a different SBR version; other than the one that is installed. For example, loading a license key, meant for SBR 6.1, on a SBR 6.0 server will trigger the above error. Ensure that you are installing a valid license.
