KB12606 - When Clientless ActiveSync is configured, cannot access Outlook Web Access (OWA) through an IVE bookmark.

Last Modified Date1/8/2016 1:44 PM
Synopsis
When Clientless ActiveSync is configured, webmail users who access their webmail through an IVE bookmark on the user’s landing page are now unable to access Outlook Web Access (OWA).
Problem or Goal
Environment:
  • Clientless ActiveSync is configured
  • Access webmail through an IVE bookmark on the user’s landing page
 Symptoms:
  • Unable to access Outlook Web Access.
Cause
When the Clientless ActiveSync is configured the PCS platform creates a reverse proxy.  The proxy configuration can be found at the following path of the Admin UI > Resource Policies > Web > Selective Rewriting > Pass-Through-Proxy.

If the hostname of the Clientless Active Sync configuration backend server is the same as the webmail web resource configured for Outlook Web Access the users will encounter the behavior described above; this is by design.

This is due to the reverse proxy configured when Clientless ActiveSync is used.
Solution
In the Clientless ActiveSync configuration you can configure the IP address of the backend server to resolve the issue, or alternatively create another DNS “A” record for the backend server on the network to only be used for the Clientless ActiveSync feature.
