KB22964 - How to reset a PCS device to the factory default setting via the serial console

« Go Back

Last Modified Date3/24/2016 6:03 AM
This article provides information on how to reset a PCS device to the factory default setting via the serial console.
Problem or Goal
  • Before performing any system recovery option, please ensure to make a backup of the system and user configuration.
  • Performing a factory reset will remove the entire configuration from the device and restore it to the factory defaults.
Note:  If a lower software version is going to be installed after the factory reset, the existing configuration cannot be loaded.  For example, 8.1R1 configuration cannot be loaded on 8.0R10.  If the same version or higher is going to be installed, no additional consideration is needed.
To perform a factory-reset:
  1. Connect to the PCS device's serial console.
  2. Select the System Operations option.

When you select y to proceed with factory reset, the system begins the process of resetting the device to its original settings. After several minutes, you are prompted to hit the Tab key to choose configuration choices; either wait for the default selection (current) to automatically start, or press Tab, type current, and then press Enter.

Now, you will be prompted to enter the initial machine configuration settings. For more information, refer to KB10163 - Serial Console and Admin GUI initial setup for the PCS

After the factory reset is complete, the system will run the factory set software version and it can be upgraded to any higher version following the upgrade path.
