Synopsis

This article provides details on the expected behavior when the option to Store host checking evaluation results is enabled.

Problem or Goal

The PCS administrator has enabled the Host Checker option to Store host checking evaluation results and is observing that Host Checker launches when the user logs in even though the HC cache has been stored on the endpoint.

Cause
This is working as expected.  Host Checker needs to load on the client in order to confirm that the cached result is still valid and, if it is not, run the compliance check to obtain the current posture.
Solution

To confirm that cached results were used for passing Host Checker, check the user access log.
When using Web-based Host Checker the following messages will be generated:

Host Checker policy 'Host Checker policy' passed on host x.x.x.x using cache results.

or

Host Checker policy 'Host Checker policy' failed on host x.x.x.x . Reason: 'Policy evaluation failed using the cached host checker results.' using cached results.

When using Pulse-based Host Checker the following messages will be generated:

Host Checker policy 'Host Checker policy' passed on host 'x.x.x.x' address '00-00-00-00-00-00' for user 'loggedInUser' using cached results.

or

Host Checker policy 'Host Checker policy' failed on host 'x.x.x.x' address '00-00-00-00-00-00' for user 'loggedInUser' reason 'Policy evaluation failed using the cached host checker results.' using cached results.
