Synopsis
This article describes an issue where "500 Internal Error" is seen when accessing some Admin pages on PCS.
Problem or Goal
"500 Internal Error" is seen when accessing some Admin pages on PCS as shown below,

User-added image
This issue applies to :
  • ANY Virtual Appliance running PCS software versions 9.1R4-9.1R4.2
  • VMWare implementations only.
This doesn't impact :
  • Hardware Appliances such as PSA-7000, PSA-5000, PSA-3000 & PSA-300.
  • This issue is not known to cause any End User Impact and it only affects the navigation to certain admin PCS pages.

Cause
This issue occurs as the partitions enter into a Read/Write mode, which in turn causes the CGI files to get modified.
Solution
This issue is fixed in PCS 9.1R4.3 (Build 5185) and is available for download via https://my.pulsesecure.net.

Note -
  • Affected customers who are on PCS 9.1R4-9.1R4.2 can do a direct software upgrade to PCS 9.1R4.3 provided they have already deployed their OVFs per Best practices outlined in Related Links.
  • OVF 9.1R4.3 size has changed from around 1 GB to around 3 GB because of some changes done with respect to filesystem and partitions.
  • Pre-8.3Rx OVFs should not be used.

Workaround :
  • Customers using PCS 9.1R3 OVFs: Rollback the software to PCS version 9.1R3.
  • Customers using OVFs prior to PCS 9.1R3: Rollback the software & upgrade to PCS 9.1R3.
  • Customers using PCS 9.1R4 OVFs: Use PCS 9.1R3 OVFs & do not upgrade to 9.1R4-9.1R4.2.
