This article describes the Network Time Protocol (NTP) issues after upgrading Pulse Connect Secure / Pulse Policy Secure to 9.1R8 Virtual Machines. This applies to virtual appliances only.
Problem or Goal
After upgrading Pulse Connect Secure / Pulse Policy Secure to 9.1R8, the virtual appliance may experience the following symptoms:
Failed authentication which are time-based sensitive (for example, SAML, RSA, etc)
Random Cluster split for Active / Active or Active / Passive

Solution
Note: Pulse Secure is aware of the issue and will be addressing it in the 9.1R8.1 release. We will keep this KB updated as and when we make progress.
Workaround:
Enable "Synchronize guest time with host" under the Virtual Machine properties as show in the image below.
