KB21175 - How to install the Network Connect client access feature on Linux 32-bit systems

Synopsis
This article provides the steps to install Network Connect on Linux 32-bit systems.

 

Problem or Goal
Cause
Solution

This article is specific to Network Connect client install on 32-bit Linux systems for RedHat, OpenSuse and Ubuntu flavors.  For directions on installing NC on these flavors as 64-bit systems please refer to KB25230. To check which Linux platforms support Network Connect, refer to the Supported Platforms documentation for the relevant version of Pulse Connect Secure OS your device is running.  

1. Install Java Runtime Environment under Linux.

Red Hat:

a. Download JRE (rpm.bin) from the Oracle site and close all the browser instances.

b. Run in terminal (installing JRE):

chmod +x jre-6xxx-linux-i586.rpm.bin
./jre-6xxx-linux-i586.rpm.bin

c. Link JRE to the browser:

cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_24/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so

Ubuntu:

a. Download JRE (rpm.bin) from the Oracle site and close all the browser instances.

 

b. Run in the terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner" sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin 

OpenSUSE:

a. Download JRE (rpm.bin) from the Oracle site or install from YAST (recommended).

 

b. Run in the terminal:

cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins ln -s /usr/lib/jdk/java/libnpjp2.so 


2. To check if the Java environment is working in the browser, refer to the following link:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/enable_browser.xml

It should show Java as working.


3. Click Network Connect from the browser:

It will ask for the root or pseudo password. 

Notes:

  • The 64-bit Linux Operating System is not qualified to work with PCS OS 6.5, 7.0, 7.1,and 7.2.  If you are running PCS OS 7.3 or higher, refer to KB25230 for instructions on configuring NC for 64-bit Linux systems. 
  • Contact the account team and raise a Enhancement Request, if required. See KB23751, How does a customer create an Enhancement Request (ER)
